The XCOM: Enemy Unknown demo has appeared from a cloud of Steam today, letting you catch a glimpse of the extra-terrestrial slaughter that awaits you come this October.

In addition, pre-order rewards have appeared on the Steam storefront, with three tiers that unlock as the game receives more pre-orders. The first two tiers have already unlocked, giving those who pre-order the game the ability to customize their soldiers’ appearance and three exclusive Team Fortress 2 items. Upon the unlocking of the third tier, everyone who pre-orders will receive a free copy of Civilization V.

So far it seems Firaxis has been doing a fine job of keeping the spirit of the originals intact, while creating a slick modern game. If you’re still not convinced, however, this is your chance to take a look for yourself.
