Xbone to PC is Dumb, We Want PC to Xbone...Wut?
Hey, have you ever said to yourself, "man, I really wish I could use my Xbox to play PC games"? No, of course you haven't. Well, most of you haven't. But screw, Microsoft are trying to do it anyway. And honestly, it's a really cool idea. Personally, I couldn't give a rat's arse about media streaming. I have my PC plugged into my TV anyway, so it's no issue at all to me. But it is a popular tech gimmick these days, and there are a lot of people who would benefit from it. So if they can do it, more power to them. It will certainly give them a leg up when it comes to advertised features in the current console market.
"We understand if you're going to go PC to Xbox," says Phil Spencer, "we need to get keyboard and mouse working completely so you could play those games. In terms of where we want to go with our platform, those are absolutely in scope of things that we want to do. Challenge is good. It's actually a little more challenging doing the encoding on the PC side to the Xbox, but challenge is good. [Gamers] want to play games on the device that they want to play on. They want to play with their friends and they progress whenever they sit down. Because of that, the roadmap and our focus on what's going on, Windows is incredibly strong."
As a quick aside, it's actually quite refreshing to hear (or read as the case may be) Phil saying things and not sounding like a complete douche. Because his general manner often puts a damper on a lot of things that would otherwise sound really frikkin' interesting. But I digress. There is not even the hint of a timeframe we can expect to see this hapening, but I can't honestly see it being that hard to do in reality. I expect the bulk of the difficulty will be in streamlining how the single is going to pass from one to the other at a high enough bitrate to remove noticeable lag.
Gotta' hand it to you guys. You fucked up the Xbone's launch, but you're doing a damn fine job of making up for it.
