What's New In Wasteland Two

Ze Germans that run Gamestar magazine ran a preview on Wasteland 2, which the guys at Wasteland 2 Guru summarised and translated. They put it in bulletpoints, so I see no reason not to do the same myself. So, as it goes:

*Game will feature about 50 maps - speculation arises from the fact, that they're compared to Fallout 2's 23, so that may mean that it's the total of all the places you'll visit (indoor maps included). MAY. Also, the game's plotline - without the side quests and other stuff - is set to be about 20 hours. Twice as much as Shadowrun!

*The radio will react to player's actions as well as play music. Sort of like 3 Dog.

*Attribute system here is CLASSIC: Charisma, Luck, Awareness, Strength, Speed, Intelligence, and Coordination. Compare it to Fallout's SPECIAL! It is also packed with 32 skilss, such as...

*Combat skills: Blunt Weapons, Bladed Weapons, Anti-Tank-Weapons, SMG, Shotguns, Energy Weapons, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifle, Handguns.

Does the wording on Anti-Tank Weapons mean that we'll see tanks in the game? Probably not, but you have to differ from "Heavy weapons" somehow. I wonder if this means "no grenade launchers".

Also, energy weapons will do a lot more damage to people wearing a lot of metal armor. Here we go again, a world where primitive as hell tribesmen are eating lasers like no tomorrow.

*Scientific skills: Picklock, Safecrack, Alarm Disarm, Toaster Repair, Computer Tech, Synth Tech, Demolitions, Brute Force. Safecrack AND alarm disarm. Kind of reminds me of the times when traps were traps in Elder Scrolls and not just painfully obvious CUT ME NOW wires. I don't even what's Toaster Repair, but Synch Tech probably deals with robots, cyborgs or their gizmos.

*General skills: Silent Move, Salvaging, Hard Ass, B.S. Detector, Outdoorsman, Evasion, Leadership, Folklore, Animal Whisperer, Field Medic, Surgeon, Weapon Smithing, Field Stripping, Perception, Barter. This looks generally hardcore - even if outdoorsman was always a waste in Fallout. Also, field stripping - are we getting a more realistic weapon maintenance system than "hey, this pistol broke after two shots"?

*Like in Wasteland, up to seven charcters in a party. Yay?

STORY AND FACTIONS

*Like any good story/date, this one starts with a corpse and mysterious radio signals.

*Some new bits about the factions

*The Mannerites are lead by Mr. Manners and are a bunch of impecably mannered cannibals. I smell New Vegas!

*Red Skorpions are basically a bunch of militant survivalists, not a far cry from some Americans today. They hate the rangers. the "k" in "Skorpions" guarantee that we won't get a plot "twist" were Rangers turn out to be evil and Skorpions the good guys, because replacing "c" with a "k" is a guaranteed mark of EEEVIL.

*The Pistol Packing Priests are a "priestly group that wants to mop up whatever human trash escaped the scorching blasts of the holy apocalypse". Does this mean that they want to kill criminals and stuff, or are they out there to kill EVERYONE? Then this is going to be a long ride, because pistols aren't exactly too productive at killing stuff en masse.

*The synths tried to kill of humans in Wasteland (because Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel had to get its plot from somewhere). These cyborgs now believe that cyborghood is the only way forward and turn their noses up against mainline humans. Wait, from who are they planning on making cyborgs agains?

*The Gippers worship Ronal Reagan as god. Expect to find many a jab against republican held beliefs that big business is good. Probably. The name of the groups is supposedly a reference to Knute Rockne, All American, in which Reagan starred in the 40s.

*The Robbinsons are based on motivational speakers. Can't wait to uncover their dark secrets!

*The Wrecking Crew are called like that because Fallout already took Raiders, and those two are basically the same. They'll have crazy ramshackle metal armor, which probably makes them the primary targets of energy weapons.

STUFF

*They had screenshots - willderness and a canyon highway covered in tribal paintings.

*inXile want to sell 200,000-300,000 copies to have funds to continue working on games. Better buy a copy for your grandma just to be on the safe side!

After Shadowrun, I feel inspired and can't wait for the game to show up!
