Well Then, Erotic Gaming Coming To Oculus Rift
If you build it, they will come. The Oculus Rift is getting a saucy little number in the shape of episodic gameplay from Irvine, California based team, Wicked Paradise. The official website brands the new game as "the world's first erotic virtual reality adventure game".
The Wicked Paradise team are still in the early development stages of their game but the team's founder, Jeroen Van den Bosch, was still happy to share details of the project in an interview with PCGamesN. Bosch said of the game's current development stage that "[Wicked Paradise is] currently in pre-production [and the team are]experimenting with different techniques to see how [they] can achieve maximum immersion with the current technology. So playtesting is not on the menu just yet" and it may be some time before players can add the Oculus Rift to their spank bank arsenal.
The game comes from a team whose seasoned members have had experience on AAA titles from the Call of Duty series, Rage, Madden, Lost Planet and Planet Side 2 to name a few. I would say something along the lines of 'well, they certainly know their target demographic' but Bosch assured that the team would "develop different experiences for different audiences" and that this project would offer content for people who aren't heterosexual men. He expanded upon this, saying, "The first series will be from a hetero male POV, but we'll have different series that cater to different genders and sexual orientations, it's our goal to ultimately have Virtual Reality experiences for everybody to enjoy," revealing that, "we actually received more inquiries about Wicked Paradise from females than from males, so it's our intention to also create mature virtual reality experiences from a female POV as well as experiences for the LGBT demographic." Yay! Inclusive, erotic, virtual reality experiences for everyone!
Bosch also explained what his motivation was behind making an adult videogame to begin with and also why he wanted to put it on the Oculus Rift, saying, "I always found it intriguing that there are so many beautifully crafted shooter games on the market, but not a single, well designed adult videogame. So I always had this idea of creating a high quality adult video game. Secondly, I had the chance to test a very early prototype of the Oculus Rift last summer and it blew me away. I immediately realized that Virtual Reality is the perfect medium for a highly immersive adult videogame." Well, we were all thinking it.
Bosch acknowledges that news of work on an adult videogame may seem a little odd to some, especially with a team of AAA developers behind it; considering which projects members of the team have worked on before, this new project seem a bit off beat. Bosch explained that these developers were interested in the project because "Some of the most veteran game developers in the industry have been doing the same thing over and over. After years of modelling guns and soldiers, I can imagine why a lot of them are really wanting to do something different," and that "Virtual Reality is really something that sparks people's imagination, and game developers are all very creative people so their imagination is running wild since the Oculus Rift got announced, they really want to get involved in this."
Bosch was also keen to discuss the level of quality they wanted to achieve with this project. In terms of visuals, Bosch said, "Our goal is to cross uncanny valley so we are using the most advanced techniques from the videogame and movie industry in order to get the characters and environments as realistic as possible." In regards to the game's writing, Bosch expressed the desire to "generate erotic tension between the player and the virtual characters" within the storyline. He also said "You need a solid storyline in order to achieve that. It will be a modern day setting, I think the best way to describe is like an adult version of Heavy Rain but completely designed for Virtual Reality."
So, an R-rated Heavy Rain with something for everyone on up and coming VR device, the Oculus Rift? Sounds awesome! After all, if you put porn on it, they will come (Wink, wink. Natch, natch). But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

They call it an "erotic adventure game". Uh, yeah... Looks more like "stripclub simulator" to me.
