Watch Leaks (Updated)

Because we just couldn't wait, we just had to cut to the chase and screw the official channels, DailyMotion is at it again. Leaking trailers and release dates and shizz. Watch Dogs dude. We know when it's coming to key an eye on us. We KNOW!

The trailer is...okay, the trailer is fucking ridiculous. I'm sorry, but it is. Ubi aren't even hiding the Deus Ex Machina maguffin. Aiden is, literally, handed the phone and told it will do...stuff. It will "make the city your playground," to the extent that we even see him shutting down the power of an entire city block (buildings and vehicles included) with the push of a button!

Maguffin on steroids.

Having said that, it's clear that Ubi have embraced the idea and just said screw it, go with it. Sure, it's a maguffin, it's an easy, lazy way to explain how you can do whatever the bleedin' 'ell you want with, like, no effort at all. But so what? It works, it's internally consistent, and it's a cool gameplay mechanic that fits with the setting. Aiden has been framed...maybe? Had a contract put out on his life, his family murdered in the face, and he's pissed and wants revenge. Something else the trailer clearly shows. This guy is not an upstanding, moral compass of virtue goody two shoes. He's pissed, and he wants people to pay.

And boy oh boy, do we want to make sure he gets his wish!

Something which, the part you've all been waiting for...

Drum roll.

Ahem.

May 27th.

The trailer (because we all know it will be taken down, so see the screencap below when that inevitably happens) shows an Xbox 360 packshot on its own...weird, but we know the game will be coming to all major platforms, including the WiiU, as well as our beloved PC. Though being Ubi, expect the PC release to be closer to the 5th of June...ish.  Either way, only two more months of rabid anticipation to go.

Get in!

Update: We also have an offical press release from Ubi (see below) to confirm. Though the whole hacked for leak thing...just go with it. It fits the motif and it sounds better right? Bear in mind though, despite their eassurance, this is Ubi. They always delay PC releases.

London, UK — March 6, 2014 — Today, Ubisoft revealed that its highly anticipated open world action-adventure game, Watch Dogs™, will be released worldwide on May 27, 2014.

In Watch Dogs™, players assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante hero who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago's central operating system (ctOS) to control almost every element of the city.

"We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs™," said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ubisoft. Also, yeah Jenssen, I see what you mean. I hope its the console footage as the game now looks washed out and blurry.

Shall we start making bets on how late will this game be to the launch party?

Watch Dogs looks interestingly horrible in recent game footage, compared to the initial trailers.

Seems out of all the entertainment industries, it's only in the gaming industry where companies time and time again get away with flat-out LYING with their pre-release footage.
