War Z Beta Incoming (If You Pay)
Fancy trying out War Z? The new start up zombie MMO has been getting a lot of attention, with similarities drawn to DayZ. You can finally see for yourself if the game will succeed when the closed beta opens on October 31st. If you pay for it that is.
There are two tiers to buying the game and being able to access it early. The Survivor level is $19.50 and gives you beta access 31st October. The second Pioneer level gives you early alpha access on the 15th and costs $29.99, as well as:
"The package includes $15 of in-game currency, special forum badge identifying player as an early, pioneer community member, and one-month of “Stronghold” map server hosting to create a unique world within the game."
However, with both options, those two prices are only available until 20th October, whereafter they will increase to $29.99 for the Survivor pack and $49.99 for the Pioneer pack. Sergey Titov, executive producer on War Z, said "We’ve been working non-stop to tweak and balance the game to where we feel comfortable beginning to bring more players in", "We are now at that point, but this is where the real work begins."
Yeah... I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. I hope Pioneer players don't end up essentially paying extra to test the game. It seems the concept of paying for an Alpha in itself is strange to me. But hey, it worked for Minecraft right?
With that aside, War Z itself looks intriguing, although I am sceptical of the games quick announcement and release, usually that means a rushed job to compete with rivals. And other than that, the trailers and media so far have a distinct 'staged' feel to them. I really do hope that the game lives up to promises though, as I have grown tired of the old faithful DayZ. Maybe this will instead satisfy my zombie hunger.
