Virtual Spaceships Slowly Becoming More Real
With the start of Fanfest 2014, CCP Games had a bit of a surprise for all in attendance: alpha footage of EVE: VR, now formally known as EVE: Valkyrie. With it came the release of another video, linked below, featuring Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica fame, who will be lending her voice as the leader of the Valkyrie squadron. (There are F-bombs, so kinda NSFW)
Touted as a launch title for the Oculus Rift (and only the OR), Valkyrie has you stepping into the shoes of a starfighter pilot in one of three roles, the first of which being a standard fighter. Featuring twin rotary laser cannons, along with a missile battery, it appears to engage primarily in anti-fighter combat.
The other two roles, the support and heavy, neither have introductory videos nor any details whatsoever, though given the fact that Oculus Rift itself has no release date at this time, this isn't entirely surprising. With more and more game developers coming out in support of the OR, it seems as though in the not-too-distant future, we could be living out the lives (and deaths) of our virtual starship pilots.
