Valve Working on New Engine
A group of Valve fans from 4chan’s /v/ board have recently gone to Valve to wish Gabe Newell happy birthday. After the short and unique birthday celebration, involving Gabe receiving a Mann Co. crate and then having to pay $2.50 to open it, he let the fans ask him some questions for roughly 40 minutes.
While I could not make out everything and not everything has subtitles (sadly), the key part of the video is close to the start of when Gabe started answering questions. Gabe confirmed that Valve is indeed working on new engine “stuff” for a while, but are simply waiting for the right game to roll it out with. However, the fans then asked if it was a completely new engine or just an updated engine, Gabe Newell simply said “yes”. I presume Gabe took it in the meaning of it is a new engine and has many new updated features that the old engine did not have.
So does this mean Source 2 engine? Does it mean a completely updated and reworked Source engine? Who knows (Gaben knows).

Are they not making some space game or something that was rumored awhile back? I bet that will be the game that uses it!

I like how Gabe gives them the 2.50 Dollars. That's just hilarious! I don't know, I get the vibe that Half-Life 3 is still so far off. Don't forget they still promised another Episode of Half-Life 2 if I recall. I really would predict the new engine to be featured on new IP so that Valve can kind of break their trend. But who knows, I might be totally wrong here.
