Valve: A New Frontier

We all know Valve don’t we? Yeah, that’s right, the company behind classics such as Half-Life, Portal and Team Fortress. And on that note, let us not forget Steam – a digital delivery system that is the model for all the other ones that sprouted up over the past few years. Well, it seems that in the future, Valve might just not only be remembered for their software products and digital distribution service, but also for hardware.

That’s right, a recent job listing on Valve’s website didn’t ask for a graphical designer, a programmer or a sound technician. Nope, it was a notice for an industrial designer. From the whole job description the following stands out:

“We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though, so we’re jumping in. Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years. There’s a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked.”

Now, we don’t really know what Valve wants to do with this guy – but looking at the minimum (system) requirements they ask of this guy, they obviously want somebody who knows his/her stuff. What will they be working on? No idea and we’re not going to be the ones who fuel the rumour chest with even more crazy ideas. But if you feel like you’ve got a hunch –share it down below.

It's very vague right now like the article says, hopefully this paves way into something more fluid for Valve to have some sort of standard that others can live by, like some sort of new 'innovative' way of gaming on top of the core M&K controls we all know and love.

I hope that they don't fail as hard as Razer with the razerblade.
