Several Ubisoft users were today contacted, by E-mail regarding a reported exploit with one of their websites. This resulted in a request to reset new passwords for user accounts. As of yet, there are no specifics as to what the exploit was, or whatm if any, impact it will have. But ubi.com is currently showing as down for maintenance which suggests, even if this is not a major intrusion, it is something that Ubisoft are treating very seriously.
We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorised access to some of our online systems. We instantly took steps to close off this access, investigate the incident and begin restoring the integrity of any compromised systems.
During this process, we learned that data had been illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. Please note that no personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.
As a result, we are recommending that you change the password for your account."
As soon as we know more we will, of course, update you with any details. Until then we recommend you immediately take steps to change any passwords you have associated with the account and keep a close eye on any monetary activity, such as Paypal, you may have linked to the Ubisoft servers. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing, but it is always better to err on the side of caution with these things. As for what it could all mean, perhaps even a publicity stunt related to the upcoming Watchdogs? Leave your thoughts below.
