Ubi Security

Several Ubisoft users were today contacted, by E-mail regarding a reported exploit with one of their websites. This resulted in a request to reset new passwords for user accounts. As of yet, there are no specifics as to what the exploit was, or whatm if any, impact it will have. But ubi.com is currently showing as down for maintenance which suggests, even if this is not a major intrusion, it is something that Ubisoft are treating very seriously.

"Dear Member,

We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorised access to some of our online systems. We instantly took steps to close off this access, investigate the incident and begin restoring the integrity of any compromised systems.

During this process, we learned that data had been illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. Please note that no personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.

As a result, we are recommending that you change the password for your account."

As soon as we know more we will, of course, update you with any details. Until then we recommend you immediately take steps to change any passwords you have associated with the account and keep a close eye on any monetary activity, such as Paypal, you may have linked to the Ubisoft servers. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing, but it is always better to err on the side of caution with these things. As for what it could all mean, perhaps even a publicity stunt related to the upcoming Watchdogs? Leave your thoughts below.

That's kinda' sad actually. That our first reaction was "pfft Watch Dogs". It shows how jaded we've become

Site is still down for maintenance. There have also been replise on Facebook negating this as a publicity stunt. It still could be of course, but I do think this is genuinely legit. I mean, if it's not, it won't work anymore anyway. People already suspect it's a joke

Who in their right mind would want to hack Uplay? Seriously, Microsoft is much more worthy of their time. Joking aside, this most likely is not a Watch Dogs stunt. It's not even clever IMO.

I'm not the only one questioning if it's a Watch Dogs stunt. There are people asking the same thing on their Facebook. They also linked to this https://support.ubi.com/en-US/FAQ.aspx?platformid=60&brandid=2030&productid=3888&faqid=kA030000000eYZ2CAM, which is pretty much just an online version of the E-mail. It does seem to be legit, though the date on that update is four days ago, which is kinda' fishy

Well, this is hilarious, seeing as I just bought Far Cry 3 through Greenman Gaming. T_T

I it's part of the Watchdogs publicity, it's in very poor taste. But I doubt it's anything like that really. Just, y'know, it's a possibility

If it is a part of the Watchdogs promo campaign, I am impressed.
