In a move that surprised...actually quite a lot of people, Google have set up a new gaming service designed, it seems, specifically to go head to head with Twitch. Called YouTube Gaming, honestly, all I'm wondering is how long before they start scre...uh, making things awkward for Le4t's Players in all new ways. 'Cause let's be honest for a minute here, YouTube's track record with gaming videos has been a tad on the uninspiring side. Our own YouTube channel saw a number of copyright strikes for videos we had, and repeatedly showed, explicit permissions for.
Then again, putting aside the cynicism for a moment, this could very weel be Google stepping up and admitting they've dropped the ball. I'll say it certainly has potential to mend some fences, especially since it is built, from the ground up, to make both hosting and finding of gaming related content to be far more convenient. Time, inevitably, will tell how it turns out. But I remain skeptically optimistic. And we shall be looking at this more in depth in the coming hours, so keep an eye open for our full take on the situtaion.
In the meantime, enjoy this tidbit of friendly needling fromthe official Twitch Twitter, which was brought to my attention by The Vanishing of Ethan Carter lead Adrian Chmielarz.
