The War Z Hacked - Servers Taken Offline
It seems that The War Z is just stumbling from one disaster to another, this time having just hauled themselves out of a terrible launch, they have fallen straight into another hole thanks to the work of hackers. According to this page which have replaced their ravaged forums, the hackers have managed to worm their way into their game and forum databases, stealing players information and passwords. As a result, OP Productions have taken the game offline, releasing a statement of apology and updating everyone on the situation.
“We are sorry to report that we have discovered that hackers gained access to our forum and game databases and the player data in those databases. We have launched a thorough investigation covering our entire system to determine the scope of the intrusion. This investigation is ongoing and is our top priority. As part of the remediation and security enhancement process we will be taking the game and forums down temporarily.”
OP Productions have stated that no payment information was taken, and that players have no need to fear that their credit cards may suddenly go haywire. However, passwords were stolen and the encryption behind them could possibly be brute forced. Thus, it is wise to all affected to change their passwords if they were used anywhere else.
