The Swingin' Sixties - Now With More Nazis!
Now, here's an oddball trailer. Wolfenstein, you know, the corridor shooter from the early 90s that every teenager loved and every parent hated? Where you walked around shooting Nazi men and Nazi dogs and Nazi Nazis. And then you shot Hitler in the face. Yeah, the series that has had countless reboots - none of which have really resembled the original, apart from the fact that you're still killing Nazis.
Well Wolfenstein: The New Order seems to be more of that. And this trailer perfectly exemplifies that. You'll be hard-pressed to find much of a Wolfenstein-vibe through this video. In fact, it reminds me more of IO Interactive's awesome and underrated Freedom Fighters.
It's the 1960s and after not having been defeated, the Nazis have naturally taken over the world with their super-fancy cyborg technology and slick hair styles. It's up to you, BJ, to take it back. Yes, take the entire world back. This time, though, you don't seem to have to do the job alone. You'll be helped by a group of resistance fighters. It seems the newly founded developer MachineGames have taken a darker approach to the topic of "global Nazi domination" compared to the rest of the Wolfenstein series. It's still pretty obvious that we'll be getting our fair share of outrageous gameplay stuff too, but the story itself seems to be taking itself a lot more serious than ever before.
Though it doesn't look like much of a Wolfenstein sequel, I'm still quite looking forward to it. I think you will too, if you watch the trailer. Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to release on May 20, but you probably already know about that.
