Whilst out wandering the web doing internet things, my eyes fell upon some tasty new images for the upcoming Aliens game by The Creative Assembly. Total War Aliens..? Make it happen! But anyway. Alien Isolation is what we're here for today. And whilst these new images do look  decidedly impressive (aside from the plastic skin on dear Amy's hand) it's difficult to get all pumped again. Colonial Marines, after all, showcased some mind bogglingly gorgeous lighting and shaders in some of its early tech demo footage.

Having said that...well, see for yourself. It remains difficult to really judge the overall technical quality of the rendering engine, considering how blocky and angular everything is. Not that that's a bad thing, the design of the various rooms and corridors is authentic Nostromo, if somewhat more spacious. This is a space station after all, not a tiny tugboat. Meanwhile the alien...well, he's a big bugger isn't he. Just like he should be. The design also harkens back to the original, 1979 classic, whilst having some of the finer details added in with later improvements in prosthetic effects and budget.

How this will all, ultimately turn out...I still speak mostly in favour of the last Aliens outing. But it remains impossible to deny that the franchise is floundering. So I remain sceptical. Optimistic, but highly sceptical.
