The Plan Was Flawless, DLC Coming In Under The Rug
Well, this was unexpected. The promised 'Armored Transport' DLC for Payday 2 is releasing on Steam tomorrow! Because screw marketing, right?
I have to admit, I'm a little confused by this announcement. Not because the DLC has been detailed first now, a day before its release, but because we're getting a bit different information from different sources. According to the press release we were sent, the DLC will include two heists set in six different locations, all involving robberies of armored transport convoys.
"Players now have two new heists that take place over six different locations. Gamers hit the armored transports downtown, in parks, underpasses, crossroads and in the harbor area of D.C. If the player is lucky, the robberies will lead to an even bigger reward –a train robbery to secure a valuable military prototype."
So, there we have it. Right? Except on Overkill's site the amount of heists is listed as "five high octane, hard and fast one-day jobs". Well. Not so simple, is it?
Well, we do still have a few facts that we are certain of. First and most excitingly, the DLC will be free to all of those who pre-ordered Payday 2 - as was promised. As an extra cherry on top, only the host needs to own the DLC. Friends who have not purchased it can still join into the host's lobby and play the heists with those who do own it. However, the loot granted by the DLC are inaccessible to outsiders.
What is this loot, you ask? Well, apart from new achievements and four new masks with a presidential theme as well as a bunch of patterns and materials for them, the DLC delivers three heavy-hitting weapons.
"For the stealth artist we have the charming Gruber Kurz pistol, Tanks will enjoy the agile Commando 553 Assault rifle and only a lunatic could love the classic Swedish K SMG. Together with over a dozen new weapon modifications, everyone will have something to play with."
Additionally, a hockey mask will be given to anyone who join the official Payday 2 Steam group, regardless of which DLC you might own.
The DLC is out tomorrow, and the price is $6.99. That is, unless you pre-ordered the game.
