The Creed Ironically Not Going Modern Warfare

Spoiler alert! Desmond Miles is nowhere to be seen in AC4: Black Flag. I won't spoil why, but I've already ruined for you if you are one of those who have yet to play AC3. Oopsie! And apparently, the focus on modern day assassins will not be ramped up in the future. In a recent Reddit Q&A with several key figures from AC4's dev team, lead writer Darby McDevitt was asked about a modern-day Assassin's Creed game, to which he had the following answer:

"I doubt we would do a modern day AC. There are just too many mechanics we would have to develop to make it believeable ... vehicles, plausible modern cities, a huge array of ranged weapons, etc. The modern day will most likely remain as a "context" for all future games, something to tie them all together..."

He finishes off by stating that Watchdogs will likely "scratch the itch for a modern day AC" for those wanting that. No excrement, Sherlock!

Though our own Bobfish will be saddened to hear about the lack of plans for a possible modern-day AC game, most gamers will likely breathe a sigh of relief after hearing this. Most people seemed to dread the sections set in the present day, as they offered little in the way of gameplay, and the story told wasn't really all that interesting to begin with. Especially up until AC 3.

Anyway, we'll still have Watchdogs. Well. Someday, at least.

Thanks, PC Gamer.

How do you counter a tommygun though?

True, true, but the killing then was indiscriminate and at range. It's less about how dead and more about how only one bullet from an automatic can do it.

IMO, that just sounds silly. An AC game set in the "Mafia time"? Wouldn't fit, if you ask me.

And you know, swords and axes tear through bodies quite well too. More so than the Tommygun. That didn't stop Ezio or any of the other characters from taking multiple hits without so much as a scratch. ;)

Someone (I think it was TotalBiscuit) made the suggestion of a AC set in the Mafia American (30's/40's?) where stealth would have to play a huge part because a tommygun could rip the assassin to pieces in a split second. I thought that had potential as "modern."

@Jenssen: Have you been abducted, used for genetic memory experiments and told you had to save the planet from total annihilation lately?

@Stunt: He had spent several weeks in the animus being sustained by invitro

I thought that Desmond had potential. Though I hated the character design on AC3. He looked like he got anorexia.

I think it's more that Desmond was an incredibly mundane non-character. Whenever he wasn't flat and boring, he was whiney.

That's because most people just wanna' kill stuff. They don't want to have to deal with that pesky thing called plot development

I think most gamers disliked the modern day stuff BECAUSE of Desmond. :P
