The 90's Arcade Racer Wants Kickstarting
Fancy funding a new Kickstarter project? The 90's Arcade Racer is a new one man effort to create a modern version of those vibrant and fun 90s games. Sure, it's a premise relying on your blind nostalgia, but check out the trailer for it, you might find it looks good anyway.
Like Daytona USA and the other colourful Sega games of the time, The 90's Arcade Racer is aiming to capture your love of all things retro, with bright visuals and arcade gameplay. Blue skies, bright green trees and... giant dinosaurs. Yep, it's all there. The project's Kickstarter page describes itself as follows:
"This is a an arcade racing game for PC, Mac, Linux and hopefully OUYA based on games that I loved playing in the arcades growing up. You could say it's inspired by those games, maybe a tribute to them or simply a rip off, any of these could be true!
The three that ate up most of my coins where Scud Race, Daytona USA and Indy 500, my goal is to recreate the feeling these games evoked from players by maintaining the colourful, vibrant look and sense of speed but with modern visuals and car handling models."
It's seen success, with near half of its £10,000 goal reached already. With 179 backers, it may not seem like much, but it's a good donation per person on average. Project creator Pelikan13 plans to hire a programmer to help him out if a stretch goal of £20,000 is reached. Allowing him to concentrate on adding more assets and ideas into the game. With 26 days still to go, it seems likely that, with a little publicity, this Kickstarter could easily achieve its aims. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
