Technology Behind The Game

By SavageOcto30-11-2012

DayZ, the popular Arma II mod, is getting its own game. Schedualed for release later this year Dean Hall, the creator of the mod and head of the standalone game, and his team are hard at work. “Our development focus is 100% on core technology, the key architecture, and not on features (yet).” says Hall on the DayZ blog.

“Let me make this very clear, our foundation release (targeted for this year), is simply the beginning. We are committed to a period of development of at least 12 months beyond that. Our aim is to make this foundation strong, and use that time to improve the mechanics not through hacks, but through sound and quality development. Our initial build will test that this base architecture works.”

While hard at work at making the base code of the game as strong and dynamic as possible, Hall also states:

“we will slip this date if needed, we will not compromise the project for the short-term gain of meeting this date.”

Delays aren’t new to the industry, and have become common place. Many actually like hearing a game has been delayed so that developers will have more time to work on the game to fix bugs or add features. Developers like Valve and Blizzard have become notorious for delays or lack of release dates (i.e. Valve Time), but also high quality games.

What do you guys think about this? Are you glad to hear the developers are willing to push back the release to work on the game? Or will you be pissed you’ll have to wait longer to give them your money? Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the matter.
