Street Fighter IV Goes Ultra
Hot on the heels of EVO 2013, the international fighting game tournament, Capcom has announced Ultra Street Fighter IV, the latest update to the Street Fighter IV series. Bringing a host of new characters, stages, and a newly rebalanced game based on fan feedback. New gameplay modes are also to come with details releasing later in the year. Currently the update is set to release early 2014. Current owners of SFIV Arcade Edition can pick it up for 15 USD, or newcomers can get it for 40 USD as a complete package.
The new characters are Hugo, Rolento, Poison, Elena, as well as an unannounced secret character. So far, all the new content seems to be based on the stages and character appearances in the release of Street Fighter X Tekken, which is a bit disappointing. While I did enjoy playing SFxT quite a bit (particularly as Poison), the appearance of what seems to essentially be recycled content smarts a bit, especially after Capcom gated so many characters in SFxT behind a not insignificant sum. Hardcore players will of course enjoy the new dynamics brought in by the new balance and characters, but I can't help but feel this is just another update.
