State of Today

Later today on Steam, people will finally be able to access Undead Lab's State of Decay. But hold your horses everyone!  Some of you may remember that they announced it would be launching on PC in a few weeks back in early December, and that Keyboard and Mouse support would come later. So essentially the Early Access model is to give them enough time and cover to implement these into it and to ensure they work by letting users test it. They'll refine it then officially take it off early access when they feel they have it ready for everyone else. So if you want to give it a try, again you will need an Xbox 360, or equivalent, controller.

"This process is not for everyone. Casual players, the easily frustrated, and the short of time should not get the Early Access version. Hey, I am all three of those things, y'all. Those are not criticisms. It's just that we want everyone to have the experience that best suits their needs."

But if you buy it later today, you'll still get the full game with all the PC features as soon as they're ready for use. So if you're itching to shoot more zombies, you better have a controller to do it with in the meantime!

Well, the mouse/keyboard was listed as being part of the reason it's Early Access rather than a full release. They're asking people to help him play test it as it's introduced. Clipping and other graphical type issues will probably be addressed during the Beta too.

But.

Lack of plot is definitely a major mark against it. As is the backpack size. I get that it's supposed to be challenging and stuff, and that it's emulating DayZ in a single player environment> But, see, people like DayZ because of the community aspect. You don't need a plot or actual objectives when you have other people with you because you can make it all up as you go along. They're going to need to work on that or they'll be lost to the vagaries of time

Its awful.
All you do after you get to the Church is basicly go around in copy pasted houses and "scavenge" loot in a tiny 10 slot backpack.
Theres no story, poor dialogue, it feels like they tried to copy paste TWD (not the game) and the gameplay is really terrible, the camera has clipping issues and can be a pain in the butt indoors, animations are pretty poor, driving physics are WONKY at best, if you drive offroad you may end up on Mars, like Ive done, twice. No mouse/kb support, need a controller, even then its wonky, using the reticle aim with controller is extremely wonky as once you get out of the deadzone you can do a 180* turn when you dont want to. PLUS You need to put gamma up to 2.0 in order to see anything, even at daytime!
