Space Hulk: Teasewing
No longer just a leaked, semi-rumour. Today, Focus Home Interactive gave us official confirmation of, and a sexy new teaser for, the upcoming Space Hulk quasi-sequel, Deathwing. For context, I call it a quasi-sequel because it is not only a different studio (Streum On, who are perhaps best know for E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy) and publisher (Focus Home Interactive), Deathwing also forgoes the isometric board game recreation approach. Adopting a full on, claustrophobic, first person shooter perspective.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. For obvious reason, it will effectively be a close in corridor shooter, for obvious reasons. With the move towards far more open, sandboxesque environments in recent years, is there still a place for something so openly closed off? If you follow my meaning. I would wager that yes, there most certainly is. After all, there is no need for the game to be entirely linear. And tight environments can be extremely atmospheric if done right. We have to hope only that Streum embrace the claustrophobic nature of the setting and go all in.
What do you think? Can they pull it off?
