South Park Doesn't Require UPlay
.@Fool_Wolf @Steam_Support Nope, Uplay is not featured in Stick of Truth
— Obsidian (@Obsidian) February 4, 2014
Somehow, South Park: The Stick of Truth has managed to wangle itself free of requiring players to use the UPlay DRM system to access the game. Previous UbiSoft games released on the PC have required players to log into UPlay even if they're playing the game through Steam, which is a form of DRM in itself. This news comes from Obsidian who Tweeted in response to @Fool_Wolf.
I can hear the faint trumpets as the internet and its many little citizens celebrate tonight at not having to use two types of DRM on one game. Down with that sort of thing.

Didn't they buy the IP as part of the THQ auction?

Well once again, so was Gunslinger. The key here is published by, NOT owned by Ubisoft.

It is still being published by them though. It's good to see they at least acquiesce for third parties

Think it has more to do with the fact that Ubisoft don't own Obsidian. It was the same with CoJ: Gunslinger. Trust me, the next Ubisoft game coming out will have the same Uplay integration and will ignore Steamworks.

Good move Ubi. Maybe there's hope for you yet
