Sound Off
Our colleagues at Gamespot went and snagged themselves and exclusive with The Creative Assembly. Giving a tantalising glimpse into their approach to sound design in the alien game we all want to play. After fighting down my intense jealousy and putting aside my detailed plans on how to exact glorious revenge at their temerity, I took a look at the video and, gotta' say, that feeling of "OMFG I NEED THIS GAME" isn't going away. With a small caveat. The emphasis on talking about the score made me...wary.
Because, y'know, a tense horror game, where you find yourself being stalked by a nine foot behemoth killing machine, which can slink through tiny passageways like a cat, making practically no noise unless it actively wants to...yeah, you really want to be listening to the Philharmonic bloody Orchestra! Well, to be fair, they produce some of the most mind blowing OSTs in the world, but still.
Having said that, there was a nice little comment, right near the end. Reminding us that, when cowering the shadows, what you can hear may very well be the difference between life and death. That assuaged much of my concern. Leaving me with only one thought. Guys, I swear to Buddah. If you mess this up...
I will systematically headbutt each and every bleedin' one of you.
In the dick!
