Sony Offline Entertainment

Sony Online Entertainment is no more, and there was much rejoicing. Not because it shut down, though I'm sure there are more than a few people who would be extremely happy if that were the case. But no, the entire SOE department has been sold-off wholesale, and reformed as the Daybreak Game Company. A development that has already left some forum users unusually optimistic.
"That means you all will answer to somebody? And if the games are unplayable at the moment because of massive lag somebody will actually care?"
Oh, sick burn!
All joking aside though, I've had personal experience with Sony Online back in the heady days of the Star Wars Galaxies era. I was there for the unmitigated clusterfuck that was the "New Game Enhancements", more commonly known as the Noob Game of Excrement or Not Good Either if mentioned in releation to the previous changes, the Combat Upgrade or Completely Useless. Sony Online's track record of actually listening to their userbase is...insert laugh.gif here.
On the other hand, no matter how bad a company may be, I am not so jaded as to take pleasure in its rank and file employees being left without a source of income. So the sale is something I can most certainly get behind, with a degree of sceptical optimism. It could be just what they needed to revitalise their library, or it could be more of the same. I'm leaning towards the former, but will wait and see for now.

Sadly, I didn't get the chance to play Galaxies until after NGE. I wonder how this will affect Planetside 2. I also wonder if I'll ever have time to play Planetside 2 again.
