SimCity Going Offline

Hell is freezing over, pigs are flying, and the Beatles are getting together for a reunion tour. All of these things must be true because somehow SimCity is getting a single player offline mode that allows you to play whenever you want as well as complete control over saving and loading your cities at any point. Sounds like an amazing technological advancement, right? Not really, but kudos for catching on, guys.

"Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it's as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then... testing, testing and more testing. As one of the final steps, we're putting Offline into the hands of some of our most hardcore players, the DevTesters. This group of volunteers is going to put Offline through its paces before we release it."

I really like SimCity, I had a lot of fun playing it and the server problems didn't really strike down my fun as I was a couple months late to picking it up after the world had dismissed the game as being the worst thing in the world. As much as I like the game I can't really defend the idea that SimCity was designed around being an online only experience. I'm certain they had it in their heads during the game's development, but SimCity would work just fine offline and it's good to see that they aren't completely stubborn.

Offline mode will be coming in Update 10. Even though there's no release date set Maxis says to keep an eye out as they want to get the update out the door as soon as they can.

This got me thinking - will Diablo 3 give in as well and go offline? We know it can be as it's offline on consoles.

Some people will read the title and think it's about Call of Duty. Some people are morons

Bet you some will read the title alone and assume they're shutting the servers down, lol.

Wow! Now all they need to do is not force Origin on me and I will probably... still not consider buying it!
