Shut Up And Jam With Barkley Once More
Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden (the full title being "Tales of Game's Studios Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up & Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa"), an unofficial fan made RPG sequel to the Megadrive game, Barkley Shut Up and Jam! is getting a second chapter.
Titled "The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 - Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie - Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa" (I swear I'm not making this up), not much has been shown of it yet. The official announcement has a bit of concept art, a kickstarter announcement, and this madcap description:
"Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. Barkley 2 is an action RPG that continues the story of the previous game and features an open, non-linear world for players to explore and discover. Barkley 2 pits the player as X114JAM9, an amnesiac baller with no recollection of his past and no concept of his incredible b-ball destiny. Only the arcane wisdom of the otherworldly slam scholar Cyberdwarf can reclaim his lost memories… and lost b-ball powers. But first, X114JAM9 must evade the sinister grasp of the malevolent A.I. Cuchulainn, his would-be captor and the ancient nemesis of all ballers, hoopsters, slammers and jammers.
The ball is in your court. The fate of the galaxy, the Post-Cyberpocalypse and all of b-balldom is in your hands. Do you have the courage, vigor and sagacity to slam with the best? Or are you just going to jam with the rest?
'Barkley 2 is the game that will change the RPG playing field forever. The edutainment revolution is nigh.'"
It's all about as absurd as it sounds. The announcement even contains numerous endorsements for the game, most from Tales of Games themselves, and one from one President of the United States, Barack Obama. If this all sounds like an incredibly stupid joke that would never actually result in a game, then by all means check out the trailer for the first game here, and secure yourself a copy of it for free on the official site.
Just for reference, the original game is a top down RPG made up of all kinds of ripped sprites in the RPG Maker engine, and is set in a post-apocalyptic Neo-New York, where fear of the legendary Chaos Dunk has outlawed basketball and forced all Ballers into hiding. It also features various drugs as restorative items, basketball headed monsters, and pumps that give you long lectures on the superior merits of Japanese "vidcons" every time you save.
