Shock and Awe
Unfortunately, we've likely all seen some interesting concepts for some mods out there on the internet, some become fully fleshed out and very successful modifications, while others either die as a concept, or die in the middle of development. Which comes to the focus of the System Shock 2 Source engine port mod, which has sadly been cancelled indefinitely by the original mod developer. However, it's not all doom and gloom for the mod just yet, as a good gesture from Mark Valentine, he has release all the assets to his mod on his dropbox account, or you can just grab the map from here.
Mark Valentine has also posted on YouTube about releasing the assets. Here is what he has said:
"I hate it when people make something cool and they just sit on their assets and all that work is lost forever. I refuse to do that. So here's all the map files, all the models and textures I had converted, some basic instructions for the pipeline I was using".
It's nice to see that the mod will very likely live again in someone else's hands rather than slowly rotting and dying. At least this is the bright side to all of this and might see it completed at some point. Are there any fans here of the original System Shock 1 and 2? Do you want to see it re-created in Source? Let us know below.

Well, the mod wasn't so much about changing the game. It was more about making it easily accessible on modern systems. Which, as he said in the video, isn't much of an issue now that the official game is available on Steam

Me neither, and when its went completely open source now, its only a matter of time till we see some more positive results, likely we'll see it completed some day.

I'm looking at the video and seeing no improvements.

That's a damn shame. At least it's not all for naught though. There are some very dedicated people our there. I'm sure someone will pick it up pretty quickly
