Rocksteady Return to Finish the Fight (Updated)

By MrJenssen04-03-2014

Did any of you wonder why Warner Bros decided to ditch Rocksteady Studios in favor of their own in-house team with Batman: Arkham Origins? It seems Rocksteady have been busy making a true sequel to the first two Arkham games while Origin cashed in with a solid but unoriginal sidestep for the franchise.

As it turns out, Batman: Arkham Knight is to be Rocksteady's last Arkham game, and is set to release this year on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The older generation of consoles get to take no part in the fun this time around, hopefully in an effort to move the franchise forward without having to compromise quality to the older hardware.

According to the lucky bastards over at Game Informer who have gotten exclusive access behind the scenes of the development, the Batmobile is going to be a core gameplay mechanic in the new game, and the streets of Gotham have been widened to accommodate for this.

Other than the Batmobile, the release platforms, the fact that Rocksteady are behind it all and that the game comes out this year, there isn't much more information out just yet. An awesome new CGI trailer is embedded above, showing off a few of the villains and indeed the Batmobile itself. We'll keep you updated once we know more.

Update: We now have a pre-order fact sheet showing an October 14th release date. Nice!

I was under the impression this takes place pretty early in Batman's career. If it really is a sequel, then I guess it's just the PS4 graphics that makes everyone look plastic-y and young.
