Rising Storm Gets New Map, Weapons and Campaign Mode
Island Assault, it's called. The new content pack for Rising Storm adds in a story element that was lacking in the game from before, with the new campaign mode. Slightly similar to turn-based strategy games, the Japanese and US teams will fight each other over numerous territories. The battles are fought down and dirty on the various maps offered in Rising Storm, and the winning team will get to choose which region to attack next. One team will claim the ultimate victory once all regions belong to the team. This can however take many hours. Red Orchestra 2 has had a campaign mode available in beta for some time, but with this pack, the Pacific and Stalingrad campaigns are now finalized.
In addition to the campaign mode, a new map is included in the pack. Betio depicts the historical battle of the Tarawa atoll in November of 1943. There are also two new weapons. The Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle with its improved accuracy over the Type 99, is a nice addition to the Japanese arsenal. But what fans of the Soviet team in Red Orchestra 2 will truly appreciate, is the PPS-42, which finally gives the Soviets an equivalent to the German MP-40. Lastly, the pack comes with some tweaks and refinements that hardcore players should appreciate.
"While Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2 are considered by many to be one of the most hardcore shooters out there, the hardcore among the fan base have been clamoring for something even more extreme and authentic. The fans have asked and we've answered with further refinements to Classic Mode (the most hardcore gameplay mode in RS/RO2). We've made player movement changes, as well as aiming and recoil changes to make it more difficult to keep your aim on enemies resulting in longer and more intense firefights."
The Island Assault pack is already out, and should be downloading automatically for you if you've got Rising Storm installed.
