Retro Alien
After the fiasco that was Aliens: Colonial Marines, the salvation of the Aliens franchise as a video game rests on the shoulders of its latest endeavour. Alien: Isolation promises to be a trip down memory lane for all of you science-fiction aficionados, even going as far as to mimic the particular type of technology the 1979 movie had. The developers are going retro, with analogue technology and CRT monitors and all that fancy equipment.
It’s interesting to see the lengths to which they go to to replicate the original vision, even going as far as to abuse video tapes to recreate damaged film effect. Normally, I would not find retro-tech particularly compelling, but the aesthetics and overall feel of the in-game footage offers an experience that looks authentic. I mean, they have the cumbersome motion-tracker device, how cool is that?
Alien: Isolation released in October for everything but Mac, Ouya, and Nintendo stuff.
