Well I'll be damned, I never ever expected a game's DLC to impress me more than the base game itself. Even though I have yet to actually play it Assassin's Creed IV hasn't really wowed me from the game's insanity of a trailerthon just prior to its release, despite glowing reviews heralding the series' embracing of fun for a change. Why does the DLC impress me then? Because it looks like the closest thing we'll ever get to a Django Unchained game, which is worth the price of buying Assassin's Creed IV AND the Season Pass combined!

The game's official press blurb reads:

"Get ready to set sail as today, Ubisoft® announced that Freedom Cry, the all-new single-player downloadable content for Assassin's Creed® IV Black Flag™, will be available for download on December 18th on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. It will be available from tomorrow, December 17th, on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. Freedom Cry is also part of the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag™ Season Pass."

I guess there's no point in trying to dodge the 8 million pound goliath in the room, this is the first assassin of color the series has gotten so far (Altair's race/ethnicity can be argued, however) and the first Assassin's Creed DLC that does not star the protagonist from the base game, and I guess the "freeing slaves" angle gives some much needed plausibility to the series' assassin recruitment meta-game.
