Many of us are familiar with John Carmack's passion for aeronautics. But did you know he's not the only video game personality to have investments in things that move really fast? 'Cause Gaben has a sports car. One that races, not just for show. Well, it's for show, but not in the same sense. Recently, he went into partnership with a charitable group called The Heart of Racing. Founded by Husband and wife team Don and Donna (seriously) Kitch.

The car in question, a Porsche GT similar to the one above, will be taking part in a fund raising drive (hehe) for paediatric cardiology unit of Seattle's Children's hospital. A hospital Gaben's own son was treated at several times during the first year of his life. The news initially came to light when, to a cacophony of incredulity and disbelief, the man himself took to Reddit. Later going on to, in true Gaben style, push for more attention by promising an AMA (ask me anything) session if half a million dollars in donations are raised.

Coming from anybody else, that would seem extremely dickish and patronising. But this is Gaben we're talking about. The very concept of him extorting half a million bucks out of us, so he can refuse to answer questions about Half-Life 3 (that's what everyone will ask, let's face it) is absolutely hilarious whilst, on a serious note, being for a very, very good cause.
