Quake Live is Ditching Browsers, Going Standalone

Quake Live, the free to play and previously browser based variant of Quake 3, will no longer be playable in your browser and instead players will need to download a launcher to play. id Software says that the reason for doing so is Google Chrome's movement away from browser plugins and Mozilla making changes to how Firefox handles plugins. Sorry, Mac and Linux players, it will no longer be supported on your operating system once it goes standalone. I always thought that Quake Live already had a standalone named "Quake 3". Go figure.
