Prey 2 – Not Good Enough

The publisher behind Prey 2, Bethesda, has released a surprisingly honest statement regarding Prey 2. Pete Hines, the Vice President of PR and Marketing at Bethesda has stated that the Prey 2 is simply not yet up to the quality standards of Bethesda and thus has delayed the game further. This news comes from an interview of Pete Hines with IGN.
Pete Hines states in the interview "We appreciate that folks are displeased that we haven't had any update or any info on Prey 2, but whatever your displeasure is, you can't even be remotely as unhappy about it as us. We spent years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help Human Head make a great Prey 2 game. What we said the last time we said anything was that it's not up to our quality standards."
Pete Hines goes on to say that "It's simply not good enough. We're not going to just proceed blindly with something that isn't good enough."
This is a good thing for Bethesda as it shows their commitment to delivering quality games to the point that they are willing to delay a game's launch until it is really up to the standards they want, rather than launching an unpolished or poor quality game that will disappoint consumers.
However, things are sounding bleak as Pete Hines states "We spent a lot of time and money and effort trying to make this thing happen and support folks, but at the same time, you just can't keep throwing money at it and saying, 'sure, it'll eventually work.' You have to have the discipline to say, 'it's not good enough. It's not hitting the quality bar."
Pete Hines also comments on the relationship with Human Heads, the developers behind Prey 2 and states clearly that the rumours are simply not true and assures us that Bethesda and Human Heads still have a great working relationship. Their positive relationship aside, Hines continues on to say that the game is simply not good enough and not where it needs to be and states that "You don't just keep throwing money at something or going down a path that you're not happy about. You have to make tough choices. Again, when we have more info on it, we'll be happy to talk about it. That's what I can say for now."
This gives the vibe that Bethesda is in the process of making tough choices currently around Prey 2, perhaps deciding on how to proceed on the titles development and they could still even decide to cancel all together. This is of course all just speculation though as Pete Hines says there is no new information to provide yet other than the fact that the title still fails to reach the quality Bethesda wants.

Bethesda have bugs? I thought they were features

Well, in fairness to Bethesda, the games they make are really big and they always work fast on trying to fix the bugs. It is only fair to compare their games to other similar sized games on PC, which are far and few... A comparable title would be GTA 4, which was horribly bugged.

If BETHESDA - kings of bugged-to-the-point-of-brokenness - says a game isn't good enough even for them, then lord help us, this world might be about to implode.
