Poker Night 2 Unsurprisingly Announced

Ah, Poker Night at the Inventory. I had some good times at the Inventory. Winning that unbearably enormous minigun from The Heavy, knocking down Strong Bad's ego ten notches, watching my bank balance reach.... MINUS $200.000? Yeah, I was never very good at poker.

For those unaware, Poker Night at the Inventory was this little thing Telltale Games released on Steam back in 2010, back when they were still just a small indie developer making fun but niche point & click games for gamers still hanging on to the gaming trends of the 90s. Well before they released The Walking Dead, in other words. Poker Night was no big story-driven adventure like Telltale's Sam & Max or Monkey Island series. It was quite simply, just a poker game. But it was unique in that it was a poker game with personality. And no I'm not counting naked ladies on cards. No, Poker Night instead showed personality through familiar characters such as Max from Telltale's reincarnation of the Sam & Max series, Tycho from the Penny Arcade web comic, The Heavy from Team Fortress 2 and Strong Bad from... well, Strongbad. I'm not even gonna dignify that little chump by stating his game.

Now, the sequel has been announced. Though it hardly comes as a surprise. The new game will have an all-new cast, including Clap-Trap from Borderlands and Ash from the Evil Dead film trilogy (re-done in the graphic style of The Walking Dead). Other than that, it still looks... well, like poker. Like Poker Night at the Inventory.

As you can probably tell, I loved Poker Night. It was so much fun on slow and boring days - with nobody to be with and nothing to do - to just sit back, relax and enjoy the chatter between the characters as they bet, called, raised, and went all in. I just felt part of this group, and often caught myself talking to my monitor in response to the occasional jab Strongbad would attempt to throw my way. I do hope that they add some new stuff in the sequel, like more than just one unlockable item for each character, maybe some more characters too. But for what it's worth, this is good news so far.

Now, let's just hope it's not just another damn April Fool's prank...
