Over the years there have been some memorable April Fool's pranks from developers, with the better ones having a touch of cruelty. And Sega's joke for this year is no different. For a long time now, fans of Phantasy Star Online have been asking for a localisation release of the sequel. And Sega out of the goodness of their hearts responded to the request.

For those who are unfamiliar, Phantasy Star Online is an MMO action RPG game created by Sega Themselves. The series started off life as a single-player RPG back in 1987 on the Master System. It wasn't until 2000 that the online version was released on the Dreamcast and its servers were accessed using SegaNet, a dial-up service provided by Sega themselves, which I have a lot of fond memories using.

In response to the years of requesting by diehard fans and being April Fool's, Sega decided to release 'Rappy Bird'. A Browser-based clone of the highly popular Flappy Bird features the Phantasy Star Iconic character, Rag Rappy, flying through the pillars of a famous Sonic the Hedgehog backdrop. The game is nothing special, and judging by the difficulty of gameplay, chucked together very quickly.

I found the joke by Sega quite amusing, but whether the fans did I would like to know. So any PSO fans let us know your thoughts on 'Rappy Bird. Here is the link to the prank.
