Offline Mode 'Almost There'

SimCity! (pixeljudge.com/en/reviews/simcity/) The reboot of Will Wright's classic city building franchise, which is likely more famous for its atrocious launch conditions than its actual gameplay. Oh yeah, and the fact that it had always-online DRM. It seems that the promised Offline mode is finally right around the corner, joining teams with Update 10 which aims to fix more problems, improve more things, and make the game less of a complete downer for fans of the old SimCity series. That is, if a fresh tweet (see above) from the devs themselves is to be believed.

It's vague - the developer is owned by EA, after all - but it's at least better than complete silence. You see, SimCity was such a complex and amazing game, with such sophisticated AI, such enormous strain on the computers of your grandparents, and overall just such an insanely ambitious project, that offline-mode simply wasn't ever going to be possible.

That was - as it always seems to be - until a modder exposed the lies and proved that playing SimCity offline was already possible way back. Well, the developers finally realized that they indeed done goofed. So they set out on the long and hard journey to make the game playable without constant internet connections as well, which leads us to today.

Hopefully, the update will be out sooner rather than later. But frankly, is it enough at this point?
