Obsidian Marines
A rather depressing video has been quietly doing the rounds, published around a month ago (as far as we can tell) as a showreel for former Obsidian animator Danny Garnett. It offers a glimpse into the Aliens that never were. Or, actually, almost were. It seems that Obsidian's gaffer, Feargus Urquhart wasn't kidding when he said the Aliens RPG was pretty much ready to ship at time of cancellation. And though the video shows a queen who clearly had one too many mushrooms, the animations certainly bear out. Promising multiple marine classes, turn-based hallway encounters and a massive amount of gear at your disposal, it strikes me as patently bizarre that SEGA opted to can it. Bu maybe we can see the poor reception to Colonial Marines as a blessing. Mayhap it will create a large enough backlash that they'll want to go back and let us have what we now know would have been Aliens: Crucible. Methinks 'tis time for a petition. Because this is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper...and a rush of irate gamers wagging their fingers at SEGA for being such silly billy's. Just don't forget to leave a comment below on your way out.
