Nvidia Director Lists GTA5 For Fall Release (Updated)

There've been tons of rumors regarding a PC-release for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V in the past few months, and with good reason. The game is looking stellar, and PC gamers want a piece of the action too. Rockstar aren't known for ignoring the PC altogether, but they sure do love to waste our time by releasing their games months or even years after the initial console release.

The latest rumor stems from Chris Evenden, senior director of investor relations (leaders sure love their arbitrarily long titles, don't they?) at Nvidia, who made a statement about the evolving PC market in a recent earnings call.

"Gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed IV."

Now, as much as I would love to see GTA 5 come out for the PC along with the console release on September 17, I'm gonna go out on a limb here. Had Evenden said that it's coming out in the spring or summer next year, I would have believed him. But he said it's coming out in the fall. Rockstar wouldn't be so stupid. They wouldn't release a game without it building up any buzz-momentum prior to it. GTA5 is only a month or so away from release on consoles, there's no way a PC version would come out at the same time, or even one or two months after, without Rockstar teasing it and promoting it extensively months in advance.

Within the next few days, you'll be sure to hear Evenden step up and correct himself. Let's not forget, he's not a game developer, or a graphics card engineer. He's a suit in the "investor relations" department. It's easy to make such a slip-up, especially if you're not down in the trenches of PC gaming yourself.

Sorry for being a party-pooper, but let's just be realistic. Ain't. Gonna. Happen.

Update: A spokesperson from Nvidia has retracted the initial 'confirmation' in an official statement.

"Please note, during our Thursday’s earnings call, our investor relations team provided a list of important games that gamers are looking forward to on PC this fall, and included Grand Theft Auto V on that list. This statement was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general, and was not intended to represent specific knowledge possessed by NVIDIA. NVIDIA does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error."

It won't, Nvidia has already clarified that statement was overenthusiastic and didn't refer to real GTA5 release date.

Hmmm. I hope he didn't speak in general and it is true.
