No Titanfall for You, South Africa
@NikDragutinovic performance wasn't as good in the area as we would like, don't want to sell you something that isn't great— Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) March 7, 2014
Respawn Entertainment and EA announced via this Facebook post that they are cancelling Titanfall in South Africa. The post has generated a groundswell of protests from South African gamers who say that they encountered no problems during testing. "(P)erformance wasn't as good in the area as we would like, (we)don't want to sell you something that isn't great," said Respawn's Vince Zampella.
The Facebook post doesn't specify the nature of what the performance issues are, but it sounds as if server ping might be the problem. In an online-only game centred on battles with other players, slow Internet speed could certainly compromise the game experience for those affected.
While I can understand why the South African gamers are disappointed, I also sympathize with the developers. I applaud Respawn Entertainment and EA for turning down the opportunity to make more money in favor of providing a quality gaming experience.
