Every bit of good news has a catch, it would seem. While the recent awesome announcement about Titanfall made it clear that the no scoping dudebro's tactics are last gen, a more recent announcement confirmed that modding tools will not be available for PCs. Silver lining, though, the prospect of said modding tools will be evaluated after launch, which could be as good as Microsoft reevaluating its former Xbox One decisions or as bad as YouTube reevaluating content claims. Either way, everyone is going to have to put their hopes for an awesome Mechwarrior total conversion on the backburner.

While modding is not explicitly a requirement of any game in particular, it has always resulted in a longer shelf life for PC games. Furthermore, it is a gesture of good will on the part of the devs and publishers, often times trading map packs and DLC for the courtesy. Perhaps the future will hold modding for the franchise—goodness knows mods plus mechs is an awesome combination—but as for now, vanilla is the flavor of the month.
