Need for Speed is Back
Promising deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game, Need for Speed has always been about sleek graphics and beautiful, real-world cars. From what we can tell from the brief teaser, it is indeed going to be at night with plenty of police action, and it certainly looks nice now, but that is typically the case with racing games.
Regardless, Marcus Nilsson, head of Ghost Games, had this to say:
"Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we're returning it to greatness in this reboot...Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we've always wanted to. We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed."
Previously, Ghost Games worked on Need for Speed Rivals, the last major entry in the series. Perhaps in response to some criticism, Ghost Games is going to be working with Speedhunters, EA's own car culture community. What this partnership entails exactly is unknown at this time, but it's nice to see more community collaborations. Need for Speed is tentatively set to launch sometime this Fall for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
