Mysterious Patch Shocks the System
Appearing from the ether of the French forum Ariane4ever are two new patches for PC classics Thief 2 and System Shock 2.
While the origin of the patches is somewhat in the dark, they provide massive improvements to the aging games. Not only do they fix compatibility with modern systems for games that are notoriously difficult to get running, but they provide a simple solution to the complex multi-step processes that were previously available.
The patches fix a host of bugs, effortlessly allow playing the games in high resolutions, fix the outdated video players that played the prerendered movies, and allow more space for polygons and textures, potentially allowing modders to add higher resolution textures and models.
The patches can be found here, as well as a change log detailing the improvements.
This is a great opportunity to re-experience two of the finest games in the PC back catalogue, and for those who have had the misfortune to have never played Thief or System Shock, to experience the fine work of Looking Glass at their peak.
