Mordheim: City of the Damned Good Gameplay
We have the first gameplay demonstration of Mordheim: City of the Damned.
Let's recognise the elephant in the room: Mordheim is basically XCOM: Enemy Unknown with an over-the-shoulder perspective. This isn't a bad thing. That combat system is excellent, and the addition of a larger variety of units, movement actions, and combat capabilities, wrapped in the reality of the Warhammer universe, will only make for a better experience.
When I play XCOM, I often find myself thinking, Why am I so far away from the action? Yes, the top-down perspective emphasises the strategy of the game but it also removes you from the immediacy and impact of the action. Mordheim scratches that itch by putting you in third-person view behind whichever character you're controlling, and presenting the action up close. This does introduce a downside in that, as with Dragon Age 2, you're not able to see enough to be optimally tactical; however, that's ameliorated by allowing you to move about the map with your characters until you decide how best to position them before committing to a course of action.
I highly encourage you to press play and spend ten minutes watching the video. It's quite entertaining.
Along with the gameplay video comes the announcement that Mordheim: City of the Damned is now available for Early Access. Buying it at this stage will save you 20%.
Oh, the game also has an official website now, if you're interested.
