Minecraft Realms - Subscription Service for Families
Is $10-$15 a month worth keeping your children away from the dregs of the internet? Mojang CEO Carl Manneh certainly thinks so. Minecraft Realms has been announced, a service for parents who are "tired of trying to act as server administrators on behalf of their kids" and instead are willing to fork out a monthly subscription to allow the safe gaming of their children. According to him, it "will still be a safe and easy way for kids and families to play Minecraft online."
Subscribers would then have their own world to play around in, without having to host a server, and would be able to invite other players using a friends-only list, able to invite both subscribers and non-subscribers. Subscription may be maintained by pre-paid cards. Mojang expects this to rake in new players, trying to give it a "viral aspect" and get more people on the pixelated, wood-crafted bandwagon. And, as expected, they'll rake in the cash, with Manneh stating proudly that it'll probably "be the biggest source of income" for Mojang, possibly taking in more money than the game itself.
