Less is More? Titanfall DLC Announced Already

On March 6, the folks at Respawn Entertainment and EA announced the Season Pass, which includes three additional content packs for Titanfall. The Season Pass costs $24.99 and will save you a whole $5 over buying each of the content packs separately. It will go on sale March 11. The Digital Deluxe edition of the game is available through Origin right now and includes the Season Pass. This PC exclusive will cost $79.99. If you pre-ordered the standard edition via Origin, you're in luck: you can upgrade your purchase to the Digital Deluxe version by getting in touch with the staff at Origin.

I'm at a loss for words right now, quite literally. Titanfall hasn't even been released yet, and they already have three DLC packs lined up. It begs the question: why isn't this content just included in the game when it releases? I understand about marketing and additional monetization strategies, but really, EA? Again? Will you even try to think about being less obviously money-hungry next time?

The problem with that, Ruby, is that most of these publishers are way too short-sighted. They think that people won't buy the expansions/DLCs if they can get maps for free. They fail to realize that people still want official maps IN ADDITION to the community-made ones. The Battlefield franchise has already proven this many times. Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 had several expansions, that sold well. This despite there being tons of amazing mods and maps made by the community. Hell, the fact that Battlefield 2 took place in the modern day, can pretty much be credited to the success of the Desert Combat mod for BF1942. The ARMA series is another example. Plenty of mods and maps. Yet the expansions still sell well.

... But that's what happens, when you have suits at the top who control everything, without really seeming to know a damn thing about the market at all.

What I would love to see is more map editors in games. If companies wish to release an editor as paid dlc then fine, as long as the created maps are kept free. I think that is the way forward.

Frankly, that's the way it should be. Big companies should always be given a hard time. It's pretty much the only think keeping them in line.

The pricing sucks, I can agree with that. The days of free anything are pretty much long gone.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm getting sick of seeing the same news article about DLC for game X has been announced, EA are evil. I don't sway toward any publisher/dev so I'm no fan boy, just think they get a hard time for running a business and releasing DLC just like every other company out there. Nobody is forced to purchase these packs. It obviously takes time and money to create any sort of DLC. Also, the above piece mentioned the maps being part of the game. The game went gold last week or week before? Chances are they've only just started work on these new maps.

Borderlands 2's DLCs are so ridiculously lazy, it's not even funny.

... But with that said, at least these DLCs have actual voice acting in them, actually new assets. They're not just multiplayer map packs.

Multiplayer map packs used to be free for the most part, and were a way for the devs to keep the community alive, and a way to say "thank you" to all those who bought the game and still play it.

The problem with paid multiplayer DLCs, is that they split up the community. And when you do it over and over again, you have like 100 different groups of players. You have the ones that only own the game, then the ones that own the game and all DLC, then the ones that own the game but only DLC 2 and 5, then the ones that own the game and DLC 1, then the people that own the game and DLC 3, 4 and 5 etc etc etc.

It's unnecessary and greedy. And let's face it, these fucking multiplayer maps don't cost a fortune to produce. Certainly not so much that they need to cost $15. Hell, Borderlands 2's expansions/DLCs only cost $10 each.

I don't get why Activision and EA always get shit when DLC is announced yet when say Borderlands for example, has DLC announced its praised. Yes BL DLC is story based but it's the same thing for multiplayer gamers. Nobody is forced to buy any of this DLC. I may seem to come across to some people as an EA follower but im simply stating that extra content for people who enjoy the game is fine. If those people want to pay for extra stuff then let them.
