Rejoice, For Many the Least Favorite Part of Mass Effect Returns

San Diego Comic Con traditionally wasn't about video games, but rather, as the name implies, about comic books and their characters. Over the years, that has shifted into a rather all-encompassing convention for cosplay, digital media, with a good showing of American Superhero comics as well. This year, however, brings something different, with the return of Mass Effect. Not with the affable Commander Shepard and his divisive final game, but this entry is hinted at being a "spiritual successor" to the series, and some very strong hints that it's set in another galaxy entirely. BioWare was also adamant that it was not going to be called Mass Effect 4, which is strange, considering they also hinted that other characters MAY return from previous games, though if I had to guess, it likely wouldn't be the Commander and his allies.

In any case, the focus of this game appears to be set on exploration, much in the way of the first Mass Effect game was as well. Thus, the return of the Mako. Legendarily controlling like a blind beaver steering a log through a swamp, much of the exploration in the first Mass Effect amounted to scanning the planet for potential landing sites, driving around to said sites, shooting a few guys, and then leaving. Thresher Maws were about the only way that BioWare broke this up, though I personally encountered them rather infrequently. In any case, the Mako is returning, faster, and "having learned their lesson," hopefully handling much better than the first iteration thereof.

Lastly, the game is going to be developed with the help of the Frostbite 3 engine, most famously causing several months' worth of bugs in Battlefield 4, and multiplayer, a new addition in the third game, as far as I can tell, will be making a return as well. Likely not affecting the story in the same way that it did for its first outing, but it will return. Beyond Comic Con, many space opera enthusiasts, myself included, will certainly be watching carefully to see just how this new entry in the Mass Effect series will shape up.

Exactly, it wasn't perfect but it was much better then just corridor shooting. For 2007, I thought it was the bee's knees. Plus the physics were awesome. Running over guys and watching them ragdoll mountains was hilarious.

And some players felt it was the best part. Let's expand it already!

Bioware: Y'know some players had a problem with how tedious some of the planets were to explore. Lets cut it from the series entirely!

Sorry, but the mako was the best part of ME1. Glad to see it come back.

That's not too difficult. Final Fantasy VII sucks balls

The only true Mako shines out of Cloud's eyes when he faces Sephiroth. Every other "Mako" in gaming is just an attempt to be as good as Final Fantasy VII ^^
