Well, we already knew that the spectacular gore-simulator! Killing Floor 2 was going to end up on Steam Early Access before its full release. But until now, we didn't know exactly when. Well now we do. Brace yourselves, because on April 21, heads will roll. So will legs, arms and all sorts of other giblets too.

Developer Tripwire Interactive apparently don't want to go the same route with KF2 as most Early Access games, where gamers pay for a bare-bones pre-alpha experience that will (or sometimes, will not) evolve and improve over time. Instead, what we get here is - according to the devs themselves - a relatively polished beta version that comes with a subset of the content we'll see in the final game. Upon launch, the Early Access version of the killfest will have three maps, four playable classes (which the game confusingly calls "Perks"), a small handful of weapons for each class, a single boss (out of several in the full version) called "Hans Volter". He's a nasty sort, no doubt. Whenever he gets low on health, he seeks out a player and drains his or her health points to restore his own.

The devs expect to be in Early Access for at least six months, possibly longer. This of course depends on the feedback from the players during the Early Access period. We'll have a preview with some impressions from the Early Access build for you some time in the future, so stay tuned for that.
