It is not really shocking that BioShock Infinite will not have multiplayer (maybe), but it was considered at some point. Early in the games development Levine was talking about different experiments they were doing with multiplayer. No real details were given on what (if any) the multiplayer would be. Last May Irrational posted on their jobs page that they were looking for someone for a network programmer position. All of it is speculation at this point, and no real confirmation has been given about multiplayer.

Multiplayer in BioShock Infinite does not really interest me because it’s all about the story! I would not completely blow it off, but it would have to be quite creative and engaging.
