John Carmack Leaves Id Software

The unimaginable has happened and this time it is certain and confirmed by Carmack himself. The legendary game programmer, who created Id Software's powerful 3D game engines, has left the company he once co-founded.  Back when Carmack started working at Oculus VR as CTO he had stated his plans to remain at Id as an advisor. However, it did not work out well and he said that the divided focus was challenging. As Carmack's own rocket building company is currently has been put on hold, he will concentrate all his time at the Oculus VR. It might be the end of the era for Id Software, which made its breakthroughs in 3D FPS genre 20 years ago, but is likely an additional boost to the VR development. I guess we can expect even more great things from Oculus Rift in the future.

OR it could just be that he knows how to act like an adult in social media (aka the new "public"), according to some other fish in the internet sea. Wink wink.

You'd think that leaving a company you built yourself after two whole decades would elicit some basic emotion out of you. Guess working in tech that long eventually turns you into a robot.

Carmack was always a tech-guy. Good riddance for id, maybe they might start making some good games that are up to par with the modern industry's story-telling techniques. At the same time, both Carmack and Oculus will benefit from his full devotion to the Rift. And because of that, we consumers also benefit. Win-win!
